Newborn Soothe, Settle and Sleep Workshops
This session is one of my absolute favourites to teach, not only because I get to coo over newborn babies - although that IS one of my favourite things to do! - but because I know first hand just what a difference it can make to your early months together.
One parent described this session as "the missing piece" to their journey, when everything fell in to place as they gained a whole new understanding of the 4th Trimester.
As a trained Soothe, Settle and Sleep Instructor and Colic Consultant, I am here to support you as you and your little one get to know each other. You can attend this workshop once baby has arrived, or during your pregnancy, and it is best suited to babies from birth to 12 weeks of age. Both parents are very welcome to attend.
The transition from womb to world is unsettling to your baby, and you are their safe space. In the womb, your little one was warm, held, rocked, soothed by the sound of your heartbeat, and buoyant in amniotic fluid with food supplied through the umbilical cord. Now that they are here, they are in a new world of bright lights, smells, sounds and temperature changes. They are now having to wear nappies, clothes, and communicate their need for food... and without the ability to speak, all that they can do is cry!
This workshop will give you a deeper level of understanding about newborn behaviour, and you will leave with a tool kit of techniques to use at home, from calming holds, winding techniques and massage strokes.
You will learn to be more responsive to those subtle cues baby gives, and you will have the chance to take part in a baby massage routine (I bring along plenty of dolls for practice incase baby is sleeping or feeding, or if you are attending during pregnancy).
You will also be sent a lovely printable handbook to support your first 6 months together, which also explores how to introduce soothing sequences to support newborn sleep patterns, and - perhaps most important of all - how to look after your own needs whilst taking care of theirs.
This relaxed and baby-led session runs every 5-6 weeks on a Monday at Portskewett and Sudbrook Recreation Hall. It is in a small group setting at a cost of £25. Alternatively, I am available to teach in the comfort of your own home between 10am and 2pm on Thursdays at a cost of £40.
After the workshop, you will also be able to be added to the Little Pips 4th Trimester Facebook group, where you will have unlimited video access to my pre recorded video of the workshop, so there is no need to worry if you are at all distracted by your little one during our session together, or if you or your partner is unable to make it on the day.
